Tampa LPN to RN Bridge Program - About Professional Nursing Program

About Professional Nursing |  Admission Requirements |  Clinical Affiliations |  Available Schedules |  Accreditations

The Center for Allied Health & Nursing Education offers a comprehensive, fast track Professional Nursing program for current Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) to become Registered Nurses (RNs). The program has been designed to provide LPNs with career mobility, while offering educational flexibility. LPNs are able to continue their education on a full-time or part-time basis and earn an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in Nursing in as little as 15-months.

The Professional Nursing program integrates general education and nursing courses to ensure a balanced and well-rounded education that prepares students to face the challenges ahead. The curriculum is based on holistic nursing and incorporates Sr. Callista Roy’s Adaptation Model (RAM) and the Evidence-Based Practice Impact Model described by Brown (2009) for the provision of nursing care. Our students learn to understand the importance of addressing the physical, emotional, social, economic, and spiritual needs of the patient in an ever-changing, complex society.

The Professional Nursing program consists of 113 quarter credit hours of education. The program is broken into five quarters, 12 weeks in length each.

Quarter Credit Ratio: 1 Credit = 10 Clock Hours of Theory Instruction and 1 Credit = 30 Clock Hours of Skill Lab/Clinical Instruction.

* The general education and nursing support may be taken in any order and courses in quarter 3 and 4 are interchangeable

Students may transfer up to a maximum of nine quarter credits from another institution. The courses eligible for transfer credit are: (i) Nutrition, (ii) Pathophysiology, (iii) Microbiology, (iv) Sociology and (v) Human Development. In order for any courses to be eligible for transfer these courses must have been completed within the last five years, be comparable to courses as offered at the Center and students must have earned a "B" or above.  Evaluation will be based upon a number of criteria including; date course completed, grade received in course, and institution transferring the credit. The Center will only accept credits from nationally or regionally accredited institutions. Students will be responsible for providing The Center with all relevant materials required for the evaluation (including course syllabi, books utilized, transcript, etc.). If the Dean accepts the coursework completed, the student will then be required to complete a challenge exam in the subject in which the transfer credit is requested with a score of 75% or better.
